Santiago Canyon College’s Leslie Bryant Claims Junior College Soccer Player of the Year Award
Orange—Santiago Canyon College’s (SCC) Leslie Bryant was named All American Female Athlete of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s (NSCAA) at the organization’s annual convention in Philadelphia, Pa, on Saturday. Bryant, who was flown to Philadelphia to receive the honor, won in the Junior College Division III bracket. Bryant becomes the first SCC athlete to win the award. SCC Team Captain Amanda Hardeman was also named First Team All-American.
Joining Bryant were Edward Campbell (San Jacinto College-South/Montego Bay, Jamaica) at the Division I level, Kaylee Neutzling (South Lewis and Clark Community College/Edwardsville, Ill.), and Luis Gonzalez (Cerritos College/Long Beach, CA) at the Division III level.
Bryant was instrumental in SCC’s women soccer team’s march to a 23-0-2 record, the state title and a No. 1 ranking in the final NSCAA national pool. She scored six goals, five of them game-winners, and was voted Orange Empire Conference Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the second time. As a freshman, she had seven goals and 10 assists. At Irvine High School, Bryant played four years of varsity soccer for Coach Cindy Peronto. Throughout her high school career, she was voted MVP, Best Defender and Offensive Player of the Year.
She was nominated for 1st Team All-Sea View League and All-CIF. Santiago Canyon College is a public community college of Rancho Santiago Community College District, serving the residents of Anaheim Hills, Orange, Tustin and Villa Park. The college provides education for academic transfer and careers, courses for personal and professional development, and customized training for business and industry.
