Lady Hawks Finish Second in State
Orange—The Santiago Canyon College women’s soccer team ended its 2011 season December 4, finishing second in the state. It was the Hawks’ fourth appearance in six years in the state finals.
The Hawks suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss to Santa Rosa in the state championship match played at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento. SCC’s defense, which had only given up 8 goals during the season, was challenged by Santa Rosa’s offensive strength.
The lead switched three times during the match, and regulation play ended with a score of 2-2.
The Lady Hawks notched the eighth consecutive Orange Empire Conference title for SCC. Head coach Ian Woodhead praised the team’s accomplishments. “This 2011 Hawks team can be proud of the way it has conducted itself on and off the field,” he said. “The desire and commitment this team showed individually and collectively to be the best that they can be is the true measure of their success.”
