English as a Second Language 

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)

ESL classes provide English language instruction for students at all levels of English proficiency.  This program includes core ESL classes from beginning levels through intermediate levels, and specialty class options are also available.

Welcome to the Program

Enrollment and Orientation Procedures

  • Individuals interested in taking classes in the ESL Program take a placement assessment before enrolling into a class.  The student's score on the assessment determines the appropriate level of English class.  The assessment and orientation take approximately two hours.
  • Call the Registration desk for an appointment to take the placement assessment at (714) 628-5900.
  • All classes are free of charge and open entry/open exit.
  • Textbook purchase is available at the OEC Bookstore.

Transition 

No prior learning experience in English, is required. Students learn to recognize and use common English words.

 

Beginning 1-3 

Learners develop the basics of spoken and written English.
