Webster Thesaurus: Merriam-Webster Online
Standard modern thesaurus.

Experimental lexical database developed at Princeton. Not precisely a thesaurus, but words are organized into synonym sets so it can be used as one. Worth a try if the other thesauri do not produce the desired results.
Greater depth than the Merriam Webster Thesaurus, but its age occasionally shows. has a simpler interface and faster searches, but includes advertisements.

A collection of passages, phrases, and proverbs traced to their sources in ancient and modern literature. Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (1894 ed.)
Gives the original context for famous expressions and idioms.

An excellent source that will cover most grammar and writing needs. Includes full APA and  MLA  style     manuals, a grammar handbook, and an informative section on writing techniques.
