Thesauri

Webster Thesaurus: Merriam-Webster Online
Standard modern thesaurus.

Wordnet
Experimental lexical database developed at Princeton. Not precisely a thesaurus, but words are organized into synonym sets so it can be used as one. Worth a try if the other thesauri do not produce the desired results.

Thesaurus.com
Greater depth than the Merriam Webster Thesaurus, but its age occasionally shows. Thesaurus.com has a simpler interface and faster searches, but includes advertisements.

The Slot: A Spot for Copy Editors
Written by a Washington Post Copy Editor, this site serves as a supplement to the AP stylebook. Contains good advice on lots of tricky or picky situations and is fun to read.
