"Building Libraries; Building Memories"
The mayor has declared 2007 a year celebrating the contribution of our libraries to our community. New library buildings, recently opened in the city of Orange include: Chapman University, Santiago Canyon College and Orange Public Library’s main branch. Visit our libraries online or better yet, visit our new facilities and reap the benefits of a community where libraries are a vital part of our life.
On Monday, September 24, SCC joined with officials from the Orange Public Library and Chapman University to celebrate the culmination of 2007 as the Year of the Library in the City of Orange. Shown below during the archive exchange are (from left to right): Nora Jacob, Library Services Director for the City of Orange and Mayor Carolyn Cavecche; Charlene Baldwin, Dean of Leatherby Libraries at Chapman University with President Jim Doti, and President Juan Vázquez with Dean of the Library, Fine/Performing Arts and Communication, John Weispfenning. A highlight of the evening event was “Voices of the World,” a performance of early Orange residents’ memoirs by members of SCC’s award-winning speech and debate team.
On Wednesday, September 26, about 100 people attended the "Voices of the World", a lecture and book signing event featuring best-selling author Lisa See at SCC Library.
