SCC Mission Statement
Santiago Canyon College is an innovative learning community dedicated to intellectual and personal growth. Our purpose is to foster student success and to help students achieve these core outcomes: to learn, act, communicate and think critically. We are committed to maintaining standards of excellence and providing an accessible, a transferable, and an engaging education to a diverse community.
Santiago Canyon College was awarded a Title V Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Grant which provides funds over a five-year period to increase the percentage of Hispanic students completing “gatekeeper” STEM courses in Science and Mathematics. The grant also supports student learning outcomes and assessment.
The SCC Softball team competed at the State playoffs for the first time in the program’s history. Coach Lisa Cararco was named Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year.
Maureen Roe, English faculty, received the 2011 Orange County Community College Teacher of the Year award. Maureen was the third SCC Faculty member to earn this award since 2005, joining previous winners, Marcelo Pimentel, Philosophy faculty, the 2005 finalist, and Cari Cannon, Psychology Faculty, the 2009 finalist.
Fifty-nine students had their work selected for the Third Annual SCC Student Art Show, May 5-18. More than 180 entries were juried by Art Department Faculty, culminating in an awards reception on May 5.
Santiago Canyon College was awarded a $100,000 VTEA Tech Prep Demonstration Site Grant to partner with Villa Park High School and local businesses to develop a “high school to college” pathway of study in the finance and business CTE industry sector. Under the leadership of Janis Perry (counseling), the program includes multiple entry and exit points to employment and education designed to help at-risk students achieve academic success, retention, and gainful employment.
The 12th Annual Scholarship Ceremony was held on May 5, 2011. 159 scholarships totaling over $75,000 were awarded to deserving students to further their education.
