​​​​​​​​InDesign… In Demand: Digital Media Arts @ SCC

From the cascading coins in your go-to mobile time-waster, to the awe-inspiring effects of the latest blockbuster, you can't so much as glance at one of life's ever-present screens without encountering the work of digital artists.

As visual arts technology becomes more sophisticated, demand for tech-savvy creatives has blossomed – particularly in the Los Angeles/Orange County region. In response to that need, Santiago Canyon College's Art department added a Digital Media Arts certificate with two distinct career emphases – Digital Media Arts & Design and Programming.

Taught by accessible, industry-experienced faculty, both certificate tracks are designed to provide a versatile foundation for entry-level careers in digital media. Students explore the aesthetic and practical aspects of software-aided design, covering elements of graphic design, digital photography, web design, and mobile app development. Programming students also learn career-ready skills in HTML, Java, C# and iOS/iPhone environments.

Like their Art department classmates, Digital Media Arts students have access to unique opportunities to expose their work through shows at the SCC Art Gallery, located on campus. Student shows run throughout the Spring and Fall semesters, closing for the Summer term.
