Techies Launch Gaming Club at SCC

                                                by Leah Freidenrich

This spring marks the emergence of a new high-tech club on campus, the SCC Gaming Club.  President Sami Halwani is excited that more than 50 students signed up for the club during Club Rush, and 38 members have attended recent meetings.  "There is a ton of enthusiasm among our members!" Sami says.  "People are so happy to be able to connect with new friends over gaming..."

In a survey of student interest, over sixty games were named in multiple categories including: MMOs (Massive Multiplayer Online)  MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas), Horror, FPS (First Person Shooter) and Indie games.  Members' favorite games include World of Warcraft and League of Legends.  Projects for this semester include club meetings with PC, console (Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox) and board games (like Monopoly!) and card games (like Magic).  Halwani has set his sites on some club fundraisers that would divert a percentage to a club sponsored charity.  Off-campus meetings at Howie's Game Shack are also in the mix.

Biology Professor Mike Taylor is currently serving as the club advisor.  Questions about the club can go to club president Sami Halwani at 4sakenmage1@gmail.com.  The club meets on Tuesdays from 2-4:15 pm and is currently seeking donations of game consoles for upcoming tournaments.
