Head Coach Todd Dixon is excited to start the 2nd season of Men's Basketball at Santiago Canyon College and continue to build the foundation of the men's basketball program at SCC.  He is entering his 30th year of coaching basketball.  This past season was his first at SCC.  The team finished as Southern California Regional Finalists with a 22-9 record.  His previous 21 years coaching was at El Toro High School.  He spent his first five seasons of his coaching career at Santa Margarita High School where he was an assistant varsity coach and lower level head coach.  The following two seasons, he was the assistant men's basketball coach at Vanguard University under the direction of legendary coach, Bill Reynolds.

            As the varsity head coach at El Toro High School, his teams have proved to be very successful averaging over 21 wins per season.  The varsity basketball team's record during his tenure is 449-158.  The varsity team won 10 league championships, including 3 Sea View League championships and 7 South Coast League championships.  El Toro was CIF Finalists three times under his direction.  In 2013, Coach Dixon was named Orange County Register Coach of the Year.  He was a member of the CIF Basketball Advisory Committee and SCIBCA Executive Board during his high school coaching tenure.

            As a basketball player growing up in Orange County, Todd graduated from Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach in 1984.  Todd continued his playing career at Vanguard University, formerly known as Southern California College, where he was a two-time Academic All-American, as well as an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American.  He was named to the Golden State Athletic Conference First Team his junior and senior years.  Todd graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Bachelor's Degree in 1988 from Southern California College.  He continued his education by earning his Master's Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University. 

​            The program will have a "Class Act" philosophy.  His teams will represent the SCC administration, faculty, staff, and community in a positive manner.  Coach Dixon and his wife, Katie, along with their 17 year-old son, Jack, and their 14 year-old daughter, Kaitlin, reside in Lake Forest.  He is extremely grateful for his wonderful and supportive family.


Assistant Coach:  Tom McCanna

            Tom McCanna is embarking on his 22nd year of coaching. Most recently, Coach McCanna served as El Toro's Boys Assistant Varsity coach for 8 years(4 years as Head Junior Varsity Coach). In that time El Toro won 2 South Coast league titles and made a trip to the CIF-SS Finals in 2013. Prior to El Toro, Coach McCanna assisted the Marina Boys Varsity from 1996-1999 & 2002-2008 where he helped the Vikings to the CIF-SS Finals in 2003.

           Between his stints at Marina, Coach McCanna moved back to Milwaukee, WI to coach at his alma mater, Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI.  In his time at Cardinal Stritch, Coach McCanna helped the Wolves reach the NAIA National Tournament in 2000 as well as winning 2 Chicagoland Athletic Conference championships. Coach McCanna has also spent his last several summers (2010-present) working the John Beilein Player Development Camps @ the University of Michigan.

           As a player, Coach McCanna started his basketball career at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. Coach McCanna, a member of the Charter Class at SMCHS (1991) was a 3 year Varsity Captain and his teams made it to the CIF-SS Quarterfinals in 1990 and the CIF-SS Semifinals in 1991. Coach McCanna played his college ball at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI.  During his playing days at Stritch, Coach McCanna's team won the 1994 Lake Michigan Conference Championship.  His final 2 years at Stritch Coach McCanna was the recipient of the Sixth Man Award in 1995 & 1996.

           Coach McCanna is a Special Education teacher and works at Valley Vista High School in Fountain Valley. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Public Communications from Cardinal Stritch in 1996 and completed his Masters of Arts in Education in 2008. He currently resides in Rancho Santa Margarita with his wife Christine and is the proud father of a 17-year-old son, Aidan.
