On February 11, 2016, the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees celebrated the naming of the Santiago Canyon College Library for Lorenzo A. Ramirez, a community activist who challenged the segregation of schools in Orange. Five families filed a legal suit against the city and won the case, setting a legal precedent in 1945 which would be followed by many de-segregation cases in the decades to follow.
