​​​(Orange, CA) - Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Professor Corinna Evett has been selected as the recipient of a 2018-19 Hayward Award recognizing outstanding community college faculty who have a track record of excellence in teaching and professional activities and who have demonstrated commitment to their students, profession, and college.

“This is the first year SCC forwarded a nominee for the Hayward Award, and we are so proud that Corinna Evett was selected for this prestigious, statewide acknowledgement of her excellence in teaching, leadership, and commitment to our students and college,” said SCC Faculty Recognition Committee Chair Song Graham. “Corinna actually had to win just to be nominated. The Faculty Recognition Committee and SCC ran an internal election, and Corinna was voted by our faculty to be our campus’ nominee for the Hayward Award.”

Throughout her tenure, Corinna Evett has taught a variety of English courses and currently serves as Faculty Equity Co-coordinator, the faculty co-chair for the Student Success & Equity Committee, and co-advisor for the SCC Pride Club. She also leads Safe Space Ally trainings; volunteers at the SCC Hawk’s Nest Food Pantry; provides equity trainings to students, faculty, and staff; and hosts the annual Shakespeare in the Park event. Previously, Evett has, among other roles, been the advisor for the LAMBDA Gay-Straight Alliance Club, Psychology Club, and Big Brothers/Sister Club as well as president of the Academic Senate of Santiago Canyon College from 2012-2016.

“I consider it a heartfelt honor to receive the 2018-19 Hayward Award, and I am deeply humbled to have my contributions in the classroom, within my discipline, and with shared governance at the college and state level recognized in this way,” Evett said. “Moreover, I am profoundly grateful for the privilege of working alongside so many distinguished members of the Santiago Canyon College and Rancho Santiago Community College District community with students, faculty, classified staff, and administrators alike as well as for the endless love, support, and encouragement from my beloved husband, Todd Evett, for they have all inspired me to strive to be the best educator, colleague, and human being that I can.”

The Hayward Award is a Board of Governors award, sponsored by the Foundation for California Community Colleges. Corinna Evett will receive a plaque with a $1,250 cash award and will also be recognized at the Board of Governors for California Community Colleges meeting on March 18.
