(Orange, CA) – The Santiago Canyon College Foundation (SCCF) has appointed Valerie Venegas to its board of directors. The foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is managed by a ten-member board whose charge is to assist in raising funds to support programs and scholarships for students at Santiago Canyon College.
Ms. Venegas brings to the foundation over 30 years of experience in events management, fundraising and college-level student support program management. She is currently the Manager of Scholarships and Events at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. In that role, she oversees the distribution of private scholarships to students and coordinates campus special events, including the annual Peace Conference, a zero-waste event sponsored by the college. Previous to her current position, she specialized in the area of student life and leadership at both Golden West College and Santa Ana College, working directly with student clubs and the Associated Student Government to create programs and leadership training opportunities for students. In addition to her professional duties, she extensively volunteers in the community for a wide range of non-profits, including StandUp for Kids and Second Harvest Food Bank. Since 2002, she has been extensively involved in the Boy Scouts of America at the local, county and national level. She is also a trained Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteer and trainer.

In particular, her extensive events and fundraising experience, as well as her insider knowledge of community colleges, will help us expand our community profile and fundraising efforts on behalf of SCC,” said Larry Cohn, foundation board president.
Ms. Venegas holds an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies from Santa Ana College and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Long Beach State. She is a current member of the California Community College Student Affairs Association (CCCSAA), where she has held many leadership roles, including President. She is also a member of the Association of California Community College Administrators (ACCCA).
