Community-Based Organization Supports College Veterans Program and Food Pantry
(Orange, CA) - The
Santiago Canyon College Foundation (SCCF) in Orange gratefully acknowledges two recent donations awarded by the
Community Foundation of Orange (CFO). The CFO is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the communities of Orange and Villa Park through civic investment and involvement.
“The Community Foundation of Orange is an integral partner with Santiago Canyon College and its mission of fostering student success,” said SCC President Dr. John Hernandez. “The Foundation recognizes a need, and works to fulfill it, and we are extremely appreciative of their many efforts,” he added.
In August, the CFO donated $5,000 to support the
Veterans Service Office (VSO) at
Santiago Canyon College (SCC), which will be applied to fund up to 10 scholarships during the current 2017-18 academic year, for student veterans registered for services at the VSO. The VSO provides counseling and support services for student veterans enrolled at the college, including assistance with securing federal veterans benefits.
The CFO also recently announced a $2,600 donation toward the college’s recently launched Hawk’s Nest Food Pantry. The pantry emerged as a partnership between SCC faculty, staff, local community organizations and private businesses to address a growing problem of food insecurity on campus. A recent campus survey revealed that at any given time from 7 to 10 percent of students attend class without having had access to healthy food, which is linked to academic success.
The Hawk’s Nest Food Pantry joins a growing network of counseling and support services available at SCC to assist students, regardless of their financial circumstances, in successfully completing their chosen course of study.
