(Orange, CA) - Santiago Canyon College (SCC) is celebrating the history of hip hop Saturday, June 1.
The dance performance, “Journey of Hip Hop and Beyond,” is a study in the evolution of dance from the 70s through today, and includes guest performances by Irvine High School, Dance for Joy and Golden West College Dance.
“Dance is a voice of expression, past to present,” said SCC Professor Carrie Woodson. “Each spring, the SCC Dance showcase features student and faculty choreography. The last two years, SCC has invited the dance community to collaborate in this showing. Choreography has included jazz, modern, ballet, tap, contemporary and musical theater, and this year we will include hip hop.”
The SCC spring showcase features student choreography and experiences in dance for high school and college students, as well as the community. The college offers courses in dance history, ballet, modern, jazz, dance performance and hip hop.
“Journey of Hip Hop and Beyond” takes place at 2 p.m., at Santiago Canyon College’s Black Box Theatre, Room D121, 8045 E. Chapman Ave. in Orange. Tickets, $10, are available at the door.
