(Orange, CA) - The Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Foundation recently appointed William F. Underwood to its board of directors. The foundation is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds to support the college and its students through the leadership of a seven-member board of directors.
From 1990 until his retirement in 2011, Underwood, a Villa Park resident, served as the managing director and co-founder of the Information Technology Group (ITG). ITG provides senior-level consultants to statewide higher education organizations and Fortune 500 corporations. Services offered include project planning, designing and managing 50-300 person teams, and mission critical projects.
Previously, he was a partner with Arthur Andersen & Company with global responsibilities in the hospitality, entertainment, and gaming industries as well as national responsibilities for the real estate and leasing sectors. In Southern California, he was responsible for the service industries group. He was also responsible for the Orange County, Nevada, and Hawaii offices. Prior to that, he served as a U.S. Naval officer with two tours of duty in Vietnam, one construction battalion tour, and one destroyer tour.
His involvement in local government has included serving as chair of the Orange County Grand Jury from 2011-2012; serving as chair of the City of Villa Park Investment Advisory Committee since 2008; serving as editor, board member and treasurer of the Grand Jurors Association of Orange County since 2012; as an applicant screener for the OCTA Measure M Taxpayer Oversight Committee since 2015; and as a volunteer for Orange County Community Services Point in Time homeless census survey. He also currently serves as membership chair for the Villa Park Rotary Club, as a lead responder for the Orange County Trauma Intervention Program (TIP), and as a member of the Orange County World Affairs Council.
Underwood earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Louisville (Louisville, Kentucky) and an MBA in finance from Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate Management School (Evanston, Illinois). He also completed US Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island.
The purpose of the SCC Foundation is to sponsor various gift-giving opportunities, increase public awareness, and participate in campaigns needed to provide for the scholarships, programs, and capital needs of the college.
