Santiago Canyon College to Host Racial Justice Advocate Chris Crass on October 27

​​WHAT:

Santiago Canyon College (SCC) will host “Being an Ally: Strategies for Engaging and Moving White People into Racial Justice Action” with Chris Crass. Crass is a longtime community organizer, writer, and educator.

Chris CrassHe focuses on anti-racist organizing and racial justice. He is recognized as one of the leading voices in white communities for racial justice and Black Lives Matter. From Harvard and Vanderbilt to the University of Arkansas and UC Santa Cruz, Crass often keynotes at colleges and universities across the nation. Crass is also invited to present at major conferences including, most recently, the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education - NCORE 2016 and the White Privilege Conference. Through his use of humor, storytelling, and historical examples, he is able to connect with his audience and inspire them to live and work for racial equity and justice.

COST:

The lecture is free and open to the public. Seating is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.
Parking without a permit will be cited. Visitors can purchase a $2 daily parking permit allowing
parking in any student lot for the day.

WHY:

After students, both of color and white, listen to Crass speak, they comment that they have never heard a white person speak with such clarity and passion when it comes to racism. Crass offers students guidance and encouragement when it comes to “what they can do” about racial injustice.
