SCC's First Year Support Center is hosting "I Support the Dream!" on Thursday, October 19th, 2017 at 11:00am in room E-307. Students will be joined by members of SCC's AB 540 Advisory Group, faculty, administrators, and staff - calling our congressional representatives in support of DACA recipients, and as part of the college's efforts during DACA Advocacy Week: October 16 - 20, 2017. Please join us in E-307 and lend your voice of support!

Today Mission Asset Fund, a San Francisco-based nonprofit with a long history of supporting Dreamers, along with generous support from the Weingart Foundation, announced it is now providing $495 scholarships so DACA recipients can safely renew their status. Any individual whose DACA status is set to expire between now and March 5, 2018 may still apply for renewal. The application deadline for these renewals is Oct. 5. Dreamers can apply for the scholarship at
LC4DACA.org and receive a check made out to the Department of Homeland Security within 48 hours. These grants are available to community college, California State University and University of California students. If you are eligible to renew your DACA status before the October 5th cutoff date, please visit LC4DACA.org for more details.

Earlier this week, California Legislative Leadership and Governor Brown announced a deal to provide $30 million to support California’s undocumented immigrants. The proposal provides $20 million in additional funding for immigration legal services under the One California program, and an additional $10 million in financial aid for Dreamers in the California Community Colleges, California State University and University of California systems. CSU will receive $2 million and UC will receive $1 million to support the existing Dream Loan Program. The California Community College Chancellor’s Office will receive $7 million. This funding will be made available to local colleges so that they can provide emergency financial aid resources to students affected by President Trump’s decision to rescind the DACA program. The Trump administration has announced today that it will be ending Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). It has stated that a 6-month phase-out period is expected. New applications for DACA will be rejected. The Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCCD) Chancellor, and Presidents from both Santiago Canyon College and Santa Ana College, have released a joint statement in support of DACA recipients with important legal details pertaining to DACA being rescinded -

Immigration Post-Election Q&A - DACA Students, "Sanctuary Campuses," and Institutional or Community Assistance" resource guide designed to explain and address in detail what may happen if the President-elect were to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, implications for current DACA students, and important steps school administrators, faculty, counselors and staff can take to serve as advocates for undocumented members of our community during this time of uncertainty.
