Fall 2021 Instructional Methods

Online (O) classes are distance education classes with no scheduled meeting days. Students will log in to Canvas and complete work regularly throughout the week. Other technologies may be required to complete coursework.

These Online (O) classes are structured like traditional online courses (pre-COVID). All instruction occurs through Canvas, and there are NOT specified meeting times where you are required to be online.

Remote Live (RL) classes are distance education classes with weekly scheduled meeting days and times. Students will attend class virtually during the published course times. Canvas and other technologies will be required to complete coursework.

These Remote Live (RL) classes are structured similarly to a class that you would attend on campus, except that instead of coming to campus, you are logging in for a Zoom meeting/classroom session during the class period. You will see the days and times for these meetings listed under Section Information. These classes are great for when you are more comfortable with the structure of specified meeting times scheduled throughout the week.

Remote Blended (RB) classes are distance education classes with some scheduled meeting days and times. Students will attend class virtually during these published times only (see Course Comments under Section Information for days and times). Additionally, students will log in to Canvas and complete work regularly throughout the week. Other technologies may be required to complete coursework.

These Remote Blended (RB) classes are mostly online, similar to a traditional online class, but there are a handful of online meetings scheduled throughout the semester. You will see the dates and times for those meetings listed under Section Information. During a regular week, you will log in to Canvas on your own time to turn in work and satisfy the deadlines that have been communicated by the instructor. On a day where there is a scheduled meeting, you will log in for a Zoom meeting/classroom session during the specified day and time.

Face-to-Face (F2F) classes are in-person and on-campus classes with weekly scheduled meeting days and times. Students will complete the semester on campus unless the college is ordered to discontinue face-to-face classes. If face-to-face courses are discontinued, and the course cannot be completed through distance education, it will be cancelled.

These Face-to-Face (F2F) classes will take place in-person during scheduled meeting times. This is like a “normal" on-campus class pre-COVID, though there will be certain precautions. Also, there is a possibility that these classes will be cancelled if circumstances around face-to-face instruction change, and the class cannot be migrated into an online format. For example, if the class is a swimming class, but you are unable to come to campus to swim in the pool, the class will be cancelled.

Hybrid (H) classes are distance education courses (Online, Remote Live, Remote Blended) combined with on-campus face-to-face classes that will meet on required scheduled meetings days and times (see Course Comments under Section Information for days and times) unless the college is ordered to discontinue face-to-face classes. If face-to-face courses are discontinued, and the course cannot be completed through distance education, it will be cancelled.

These Hybrid (H) classes will blend Online, Remote Live, and Remote Blended with Face-to-Face classes on campus. Because there is a lot of flexibility within that description, it is best to refer the Section Information of the course to understand how the class is broken down.

“Online Days and Times To Be Announced"

This information appears next to many/all of the classes that are being offered online without specified meeting times. Refer to the class modality to see if whether or not meeting days/times will be part of the class.
