Debbie Allen

DebbieAllen.jpgDeborah Kaye Allen was born on January 16, 1950 in Houston, Texas. She is an American actress, dancer, choreographer, singer-songwriter, director, producer, and a former member of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities. She has been nominated 20 times for an Emmy Award (winning five), two Tony Awards, and has also won a Golden Globe Award and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991. She has directed more than 50 television and film productions.

Allen also shared the importance of using art to give back to the community. In honor of World Aids Day on Saturday, Allen has  partnered with The AIDS Healthcare Foundation for an event at The Apollo Theater titled ICONS of Dance.
She’s also advocated for change by mentoring the next generation of dancers. This includes producing an annual holiday show to raise funds for arts education.
