CalWORKs

The California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program is  designed to assist families as they become financially self sufficient.

Both new and current enrolled SCC students, who are receiving or qualify to receive cash aid from the Orange County Social Services Department, may be eligible for CalWORKs. Services include academic and personal counseling/case management, vocational training, job placement services and student support services.

Santiago Canyon College provides student support services and resources for CalWORKS participants with the short-term goal of preparing them to move into unsubsidized employment and the long term goal of taking active control over their own lives and managing their careers.

Department Mission Statement

The CalWORKs program responds to the needs and concerns of socio-economically challenged students with dependent children (receiving or eligible for cash aid) by providing specialized counseling, instructional and support services to help insure their achievement of educational goals and career readiness. Ultimately, the CalWORKs program goal for each student is to complete an educational goal that will prepare them as viable members of the workforce.
