FERPA (Privacy Act)

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

​​​FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's K-12 education records. 

These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 OR​ attends a school beyond the high school level. 

We cannot discuss an SCC student's information with their parent. An exception is, if the student appears in our office in person they can fill out and sign a "Dependent Student Authorization to Release Information" form, and name a parent as an authorized person. This form expires at the end of each academic year.
