Who is eligible to participate in the 2021 Commencement Ceremony?
Students who have submitted a
Petition to Graduate for a degree (AA/AS/AA-T/AS-T) in the Class of 2020 and Class of 2021.
- Class of 2020 - Summer 2019, Fall 2019, Spring 2020, or Summer 2020
- Class of 2021- Fall 2020, Spring 2021, or Summer 2021
Students who have petitioned to earn a
Certificate of Achievement or Proficiency are not eligible.
Do we need to register to attend? Is there a registration deadline?
All graduates will be required to register. Those who have petitioned to graduate will receive a registration link via SurveyMonkey. Please complete registration by May 14th, 2021.
What if I didn't receive a survey? Will I still be able to participate?
Please contact the Graduation Office (email@example.com) before
May 14th to see if you are eligible.
Will graduates be given instructions?
Graduates should have received an information sheet during guest ticket pick up. The Office of Student Development will be hosting an SCC 2021 Commencement Webinar for Students.
What time do graduates need to arrive?
Graduates must be present for instructions on June 14th at 4:30 p.m. at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
Check in at Gate 6.
What is the timeline of events? What time should I tell my guests to arrive?
- 4:30 p.m. - Graduate Check In
- 5:45 p.m - Graduates Line Up for Graduate Procession
- 6:15 p.m. - Graduate Procession
- 6:30 p.m. - Ceremony Starts
- 8:15 - 8:30 p.m. (estimated) - Fireworks Display, at the end of the ceremony
Please make sure your guests arrive at the same time as the graduates so that they can watch you in the procession.
Will graduates be seated on the field?
No. Graduates will be seated in the stadium seats.
Will graduates go on the stage to receive their diplomas?
No. Graduates will stay seated in the stands while their name is called.
Will guests and graduate that are unable to use stairs be allowed to use the elevators?
Yes. Elevators will be accessible to all graduates and guests. Please visit Angel Stadium's Guest Guide for more information.
Will there be fireworks?
Yes. At the end of the ceremony, there will be a 30-second firework celebration.
Whom should I contact regarding a guest or graduate who may require special accommodations?
Contact the Office of Student Development at (714) 628-4732, and special accommodations will be reviewed based on need.
Will we be allowed to bring guests?
Yes. Each graduate will be able to request up to four (4) guest tickets during the registration process through SurveyMonkey. At the time of pick up, students may request up to five (5) more tickets for a maximum of nine (9) guest tickets. Additional tickets may be available the day of Commencement at the Information Booth near Home Plate Gate. Tickets are limited and will be first-come, first-served. Children three (3) and under do not need a ticket but must remain in the lap of an adult ticket holder.
How will tickets be disbursed?

What time will the parking lot open? Is there a parking fee?
4:30 p.m. and parking is free.
May we tailgate in the parking lot?
No. Absolutely no tailgating allowed.

What is the bag/purse policy?
Angel Stadium prohibits all bags, backpacks, and other carriers from being brought into the stadium with the following exceptions:
- Purses or bags with a single zipper closure/flap (not to exceed 4.5" x 6.5")
- Medically necessary items, including diaper bags
- Clear bags (plastic or vinyl) with no obscured interior pockets (not to exceed 12.75" x 6.5')

May I bring balloons?
No. Balloons are not allowed inside the stadium.
Will there be photo opportunities?
Yes. There will be four (4) stages for photo opportunities at Angel Stadium parking lot. Two (2) of these stages will have professional photographers. Pictures can be taken before or after the ceremony (up to 9:30pm).
Will there be refreshments or snacks for sale at the stadium?
No. There will be no food or beverages for sale. No outside food or drinks are allowed into the stadium except for one (1) sealed water bottle, per person only. Angel Stadium may open up a few concession carts for the water purchases only, but that is subject to change.
Will we be sitting with our guests?
No. Graduates will be seated in the student section. Guests will be sitting in a separate guest section. Seating will be arranged in socially distanced pods.
What is the academic attire to participate in the ceremony?
Cap and gown must both be
black, or you will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony. All graduates must wear approved academic attire.
Can I decorate my graduation cap (motarboard)?
Yes. If you choose to decorate your cap, please do so in compliance with the
Student Code of Conduct. No expression that is obscene or inappropriate will be allowed (BP5500). Any violation of this policy may cause you to be removed from participating in the ceremony.
May I wear heels?
No, but wedges are permitted.
How can I purchase a cap, gown, tassel, sash, or other graduation merchandise?

- Cap, gown, tassels, and other graduation regalia can be purchased from the
SCC Hawk Bookstore.
- The cost is $35.00 plus tax (free shipping), including a cap, gown, and tassel.
- Cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express are accepted. Credit cardholders must be present at the time of purchase.
- The deadline for shipped orders is June 7th and June 10th for pick-up orders.

Will the Ceremony be Live Streamed?
Yes. The ceremony will be live-streamed via YouTube.
Will COVID-19 safety protocols be in place during the event?
Yes. Masks will be required for all graduates and guests at all times while on stadium property. The parking lot is included as stadium property. Therefore, masks must be worn while taking photos in the parking lot. Seating will be arranged in socially distanced pods.
Will I receive my diploma at Commencement?
Unfortunately, diplomas will not be given at the Commencement ceremony. Instead, graduates will receive a padded diploma cover with no inserts. Diplomas will be mailed out a few months after the semester for which you are petitioning ends. Please make sure your mailing address is up-to-date in WebAdvisor to ensure the arrival of your diploma.
Do I qualify for academic honors?
Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above in all coursework, including courses transferred from another institution, as of Fall 2020 will qualify for the following honors:
- 3.5 to 3.79 - With Honors
- 3.80 to 3.99 - With High Honors
- 4.0 - With Highest Honors
If you qualify for Academic Honors, pick up your gold tassel at the SCC Bookstore when you pick up your cap and gown.
