Description:
With more than one million flowers at its peak, the enormous Sierra Madre wistaria vine has been named one of the seven horticultural wonders of the world! Open for public viewing only one day each year, this is your only opportunity this year to see what the Guinness Book of World Records has certified as the “World’s Largest Blossoming Plant!” We’ll travel to the small town of Sierra Madre, tucked into the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, to view this incredible vine, which is over 100 years old, weighs over 250 tons and grows on arbors spanning two private residential properties. While the vine produces fragrant purple and lavender flowers each spring, the intensity and duration of the bloom varies from year to year, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed! We’ll continue to Sierra Madre’s charming downtown village and enjoy time at leisure to explore the Wistaria Festival, street faire with food and drink, live music, car show and art faire with over 100 artisans and craft makers selling original, hand-crafted items including jewelry, paintings, wood objects, clothing, garden art and other unique items. This afternoon we’ll enjoy an included ice cream treat from an ice cream shop that offers small batch, handcrafted ice creams that are regularly ranked among the top in Southern California. This tour involves moderate walking including steps in the backyard of the private residential property.
