Hawks Headed to State Championship

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Mt. San Antonio College 6-1 in the decisive game of the Super Regional Championship on Sunday held on the SCC campus.  After beating Santa Barbara City College on Friday 18-0, and Mt. SAC 2-0 on Saturday, the Hawks were in the driver's seat as the only undefeated team.  The Super Regional is a double elimination tournament which meant the Hawks would have to lose twice on Sunday in order to be eliminated.  SCC did in fact drop the first game to the Mounties, but came out on top in Game #2 in order to secure their spot in the Final Four.  (more)

Hawks Advance to Super Regional Championship

The Santiago Canyon College Softball team defeated Mt. San Antonio College 2-0 in the winners bracket game this morning in order to advance to the Super Regional Championship game on Sunday.  Riley Nahrwold recorded the win in the circle throwing a complete game shutout and holding the Mounties to only 3 hits.  ​(more)

Hawks Open Super Regional With 18-0 Win

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Santa Barbara City College 18-0 in 5 innings for the first game of the CCCAA Super Regional Championship.  Riley Nahrwold recorded the win with 3 innings in the circle while combining with an inning from Shannon Thornton and Lauren Hammond for the shut out.  (more)

SCC Set to Host Super Regional

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team will be one of the 2 host sites of the CCCAA Super Regional Championship tournament.  The Super Regional is a 4-team, double elimination format where the winner will advance to the Final Four State Championship along with the winner from the other southern California Super Regional.  The tournament is set to run from Friday, May 13 through Sunday, May 15th with the following 4 teams (#2) Santiago Canyon, (#3) Mt. San Antonio College, (#6) College of the Canyons, and (#7) Santa Barbara City College.  (more)

Hawks Sweep Regional

The #2 seeded Santiago Canyon College Hawks swept Ventura College the # 15 seed in order to advance to the Super Regional.  The Hawks won game one on Saturday 7-0 before defeating Ventura 15-0 in 5 innings on Sunday.  Riley Nahrwold had a no hitter going through the 7th inning before surrendering a hit with 2 outs.  She recorded the 1 hit win while striking out 7 batters.  On Sunday Shannon Thornton threw equally as well holding hitters to only 2 hits in the shutout to continue her undefeated streak.  (more)

Hawks Selected as #2 Seed in CCCAA Playoffs

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team completed a very successful regular season campaign where they finished with an overall record of 32-7.  All year, the Hawks have been one of the top ranked teams in the state while knocking off several other ranked opponents helping them receive the #2 bid going into the CCCAA State Championship Playoffs.  (more)

Olague and Lanksbury selected to All State

Two members of the Santiago Canyon College Softball Team were selected onto the 3CFCA All State Team.  Emili Olague, a freshman out of Marina High School, and Kaitlyn Lanksbury, a sophomore out of Huntington Beach High School. 

Olague, a first baseman, led the state in RBI’s with a total of 59 and came in at the two spot in the state for batting average at .504 on the year.  With a total of 13 home runs, an on base percentage of .569, and a slugging percentage of .983 she was in the top 3 in the state in nearly every offensive category.

Lanksbury, a third baseman, came in at #2 in the state in doubles with a total of 17 on the year.  She hit .389 overall with 3 home runs, 32 RBI, and scored 31 runs.  Defensively, Kaitlyn was third in the state in assists with 106 and was a part of turning 10 double plays. (more)

Hawks Receive All-OEC Honors

Several members of the Santiago Canyon College Softball Team were rewarded for their efforts during the 2016 season.  The Hawks had a total of 8 players who received recognition including Krista Carranza, Emili Olague, Kaitlyn Lanksbury, Jessica Daniel, Manoa Weijgertse, Ashley Clark, Jordaen Hicks and Alyssa Sojka. Hawks Win RCC Series

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team picked up a 7-5 win at Riverside City College on Wednesday.  The win brings the Hawks overall record to 32-6 on the year with only 1 game left in the regular season.  The Hawks pounded 13 hits on the day while Riley Nahrwold recorded the win improving her record to 12-4.  (more)

Hawks Win on Faculty Appreciation Day

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team posted a 13-8 victory over Orange Coast College while honoring the SCC Faculty during the team’s annual Faculty Appreciation Day!  Each member of the softball team selected a professor to whom they wanted to thank for their dedication in the classroom.  The faculty members threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of the game! Hawks Beat Cerritos in Dramatic Fashion

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Cerritos College 7-5 on Saturday.  The non-conference win marks the second time this season that the two teams have faced one another with the Hawks coming out on top both times.  Riley Narhwold went the distance in the circle, throwing all 7 innings and picking up the win.  (more)

Two members of the SCC Softball Team earned CCCAA Honors in the same week!  Facing 3 of the top teams in the state, the Hawks posted impressive numbers garnering both awards of recognition for their outstanding play in the 9th week of competition!  (more)

Hawks Sweep Saddleback

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team completed the 3 game sweep of Saddleback College today.  The Hawks used 2, 3-run home runs by Kaitlyn Lanksbury and Emili Olague to propel the 10-4 victory.  Riley Nahrwold threw 5.1 innings and recorded the win while holding the Gauchos to 1 run. (more)​

SCC Sweeps Golden West

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Golden West College 9-2 in the final game of the series in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Hawks improve to an overall record of 27-5.  Shannon Thornton was the winning pitcher of record holding the Rustlers to 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6 batters. SCC Defeats Defending State Champion

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team picked up its second win of the day over another ranked team by defeating #2 ranked Palomar College, the 2015 State Champion.  The Hawks recorded a 6-3 victory with 7 hits on the day and another great pitching performance from Riley Nahrwold.  Narhwold went the distance recording 7 innings and holding a powerful Palomar offense to 6 hits.  (more)

Hawks Knock Off Mt. SAC

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday to improve their record to 24-5 on the year.  The Hawks posted a come from behind 3-2 win to over Mt. SAC who came in ranked #4.  Riley Nahrwold recorded the win throwing 6 innings and holding them to no runs on 4 hits while striking out 4 Mt. SAC batters. (more)

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Orange Coast College 12-4 in an Orange Empire Conference game.  With a record of 24-4, the 5 inning mercy rule win marks the 15th win of the year that has been decided by the mercy rule.  Shannon Thornton picked up the win in the circle for SCC throwing 4 innings and holding the Pirates to no runs on 4 hits. Hawks Take OEC Win over Riverside

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Riverside City College on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference game.  Riverside had given the Hawks one of their only 4 losses on the season prior to this meeting.  Santiago Canyon had control the entire game and saw itself jump to the top of several categories with the 7-0 win.  ​​(more)​

Hawks Edge Fullerton 5-1

                The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Fullerton College 5-1 in an Orange Empire Conference game to improve their overall record to 22-4.  The Hawks used a great pitching performance from Lauren Hammond combined with perfect defense and the Hawks 15th double play on the year to hold the Hornets to only 4 hits over 7 innings of work.  (more)

Hammond Throws 5th Shutout

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Southwestern College 2-0 in a non-conference game on Saturday.  The win improves the Hawks to 21-4 overall and gives Lauren Hammond her 5th shutout.  The 4-hit shutout puts Hammond ranked #2 in the state for the most shutouts this season. (more)​

Hawks Beat Dons With 14th Mercy Rule Win

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated district rival Santa Ana College 9-0 on Friday.  The win is the second of the series with Santa Ana that the Hawks have won by the mercy rule and the 14th win out of 20 that has been decided by the mercy rule for Santiago Canyon College overall this season!  Lauren Hammond picked up with win throwing a shut out and holding the Dons to 5 hits.  Defensively, the Hawks played flawless defense including 2 double plays. (more)​

Hawks Hit 100 Stolen Bases

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team hit a milestone of 100 stolen bases on the season in their 10-0 mercy rule win over Golden West College on Wednesday.  The Hawks combined a perfect defensive day with 10 hits, and a 2-hit pitching performance from Shannon Thornton to secure the Orange Empire Conference victory.  (more)

3 Home Runs Push SCC Past Citrus

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team picked up a non conference win over Citrus College on Saturday 5-2.  SCC had 9 hits including 3 home runs while Shannon Thornton picked up her second win in 2 days for the Hawks in the circle.  Thornton held them to 3 hits in 4.1 innings of work.  Riley Nahrwold closed out the game holding Citrus scoreless over the final 2.2 innings.  (more)

16 Hits Power Hawks Past Saddleback

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team picked up its second win over Saddleback College.  The two teams opened the second round of Orange Empire Conference play with identical records but the Hawks walked away with a 10-2 mercy rule victory just before the rain came.  Shannon Thornton threw a complete game allowing only 4 hits while picking up the win.  Her record is now a perfect 5-0.  (more)

Cypress Upsets Hawks

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team dropped an Orange Empire Conference game 10-8 on Wednesday at Cypress College. The two teams are among the top ranked in both Southern California and the state as a whole.  Riley Nahrwold threw 4 innings for the Hawks and suffered the loss while holding Cypress to 5 hits.  Ashley Clark-Johnson was 3-for-4 on the day to lead the Hawks offensively. SCC Sweeps College of the Canyons

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team completed a clean sweep of #8 ranked College of the Canyons with a 17-5 mercy rule win and a second win by a closer margin of 4-3. The win improves the Hawks overall record to 16-3.  Riley Nahrwold picked up the win throwing 4.2 innings for the Hawks.  With another impressive offensive day, the Hawks continue to lead the state in several categories including: Runs scored (190), Doubles (49), Extra Base Hits (66), Stolen Bases (90), and On Base Percentage (.492).  (more)

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team broke their season high run total with a 17-0 win over Orange Empire Conference opponent Orange Coast College.  The Hawks had 18 hits on the day with 5 doubles, a home run, 4 stolen bases and played perfect defense. (more)

Hawks Lose Slugfest at RCC

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team is nearly the best offensive team in the state.  Yet a tough Riverside City College was able to outscore the Hawks 12-11 in a game that was marked by a total of 30 hits between the two teams.  Riverside posted 14 hits while SCC out hit them with 16.  The loss brings the Hawks to an overall record of 13-3. #1 Ranked Hawks Add 2 More Wins

The #1 ranked Santiago Canyon College Softball team bounced back with 2 wins on Saturday after dropping an Orange Empire Conference game to Fullerton College on Friday.  In fitting style, SCC posted a mercy rule 14-6 win over #10 ranked Santa Barbara City College and then a 7-0 win over Ventura College.  It is the Hawks 9th win by the mercy rule in 15 games thus far. Hawks Post 5th Straight Mercy Rule Win

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated district rival Santa Ana College 8-0 in 5 innings on Wednesday.  The win improves the Hawks to a perfect 3-0 start in Orange Empire Conference play and an overall record of 11-1.  Lauren Hammond threw a complete game shutout holding the Dons to only 2 hits on the day.  Hammond has now held hitters scoreless for 14 1/3 consecutive innings.  (more)

Lisa Camarco Guest Speaker for IGSA Opening Ceremony

 Lisa Camarco was honored as the guest speaker for the Irvine Girls Softball Association's Opening Day Ceremony.  The festivities took place on Saturday at Deanna Manning Stadium located at Bill Barber Park in Irvine.  The Irvine Girls Softball Association serves over 300 local girls from the ages of 4-14.  Head over to the Softball Facebook page by clicking here to see Head Coach Lisa Camarco's speech.

Hawks Put up 14 Runs Again

            The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Golden West College 14-0 in an Orange Empire Conference Game.  It was the second consecutive game this week that SCC has scored 14 runs and ended the game after 5 innings due to the mercy rule.  The Hawks remain in the #1 RPI position in the Southern California section after closing out their first week of conference play.  (more)

Hawks Sweep Bakersfield College

On Saturday the 13th the Hawks traveled to Bakersfield College where they put up two five inning wins against the Renegades. The double header sweep improved the Hawks to 8-1 on the season heading into Orange Empire Conference play.  Lauren Hammond notched the win in game one, while Riley Nahrwold picked up the win in game two. Hawks Host Challenger League Clinic

The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team joined forces with Little League’s Challenger Baseball team to host a clinic for the mentally and/or physically handicapped athletes.  The Hawks clinic focused on techniques for throwing, fielding, hitting, and base running.  At the conclusion of the instruction, the SCC athletes paired up with the Challenger athletes to compete in a scrimmage!  It was a fantastic and rewarding evening for everyone involved! Hawks Defeat Cerritos with 13 Hits

            The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team improved to 6-1 after a 7-1 victory over visiting Cerritos College on Friday.  The Hawks pounded out 13 hits and scored in all but 1 inning.  Riley Nahrwold went the distance for SCC in the circle holding the Falcons to 1 run on 7 hits. (more)

SCC Suffers First Loss

The Hawks took their first loss of the season in their game against Grossmont College.  The loss brings SCC to an overall record of 5-1.  Despite outhitting the Griffins, SCC could not hold on and ended up surrendering the winning run during the 8th inning while playing under the international tie breaker rules. Hawks Score 33 Runs at Glendale Tournament

            The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team picked up 4 more wins over the weekend to improve their record to 5-0 on the season.  The Hawks opened up play in Glendale with a 6-2 win over Ventura College, followed by a 7-2 victory over San Diego Mesa College on Friday.  SCC returned on Saturday with an 8-0, 5 inning mercy rule win against Sacramento City College and finished out the weekend with a 12-1, 5 inning mercy rule win over host school Glendale College. The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team opened the 2016 season with a 15-0, win over visiting San Diego City College.  The Hawks pounded out 16 hits in 5 innings of work.  Riley Nahrwold recorded the win throwing 4 complete innings while allowing only 3 hits on the day.  Lauren Hammond came in to close out the game holding the Knights to 1 hit.  (more)

Hawks topple the Number 1 Seed

Santiago Canyon entered the 2nd round of play-offs on the back of a road win against College of the Canyons who had been unbeaten in their previous 17 games. Today the Hawks were again the visitors, this time against the Number 1 seed in Southern California, Chaffey College. [more]​​
