SCC Biology Student Makes Lasting Connections
Second year, biology major Summer Marsh got connected and has gained a sense of purpose while at Santiago Canyon College.
Marsh is now the Director of Green Operations for the Associated Student Government (ASG). But, she started out in InterClub Council (ICC) before she got to where she is now. She had wanted to join ASG, but at that time there were no available positions. When she found out that she could not get involved in ASG quite yet, she remembered that the ICC president who was in one of her classes had been complaining that week about not having someone to run for secretary. So, she called the president and put her name in the running for ICC’s secretary position.
One of ICC’s events during the semester is Club Rush, a campus event held to recruit more students to join the various campus clubs. All of the members of ICC must help to put on the event.
During the fall 2016 Club Rush, Marsh talked with students about ICC and the various clubs on campus. She spoke about what a great experience she had had being involved in ICC and that the students could also feel that by getting involved. While talking with all of these students, she felt a sense of purpose because she was informing people about what they could gain by becoming involved in the SCC community. She also felt a connection to the students from talking one on one with them.
“From joining ICC, I’ve met so many people that I still talk to and go to lunch with as often as I can,” Marsh said, “I’ve made some lasting friendships and some great connections that I will carry with my after SCC.”
