To serve this need, SCC offers a range of opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience working in the field of biotechnology. The Biotechnology Lab Assistant Certificate of Proficiency provides the basic skills necessary for a student to secure an entry-level position in this Future BUILT field.

Because this certificate is “stackable," students have the option of taking additional classes and obtaining even higher levels of certification with the Biotechnology Technician and Biotechnology Biomanufacturing Technician Certificates of Achievement.

A mixture of skills-intensive courses and more traditional biology and chemistry curriculum, these certificates also provide a bridge to obtaining an Associate of Science in Biotechnology, which offers two areas of emphasis: general and food safety.

Additionally, successful students in these programs gain access to internships and entry-level job placement through OC Biotech Education, a regional partnership designed to improve educational opportunities and job placement within the OC biotechnology industry.
