California Community Colleges Common Course Numbering (CCN) System
What is Common Course Numbering?
A statewide system that assigns the same numbers, titles, and descriptions to similar courses across all California Community Colleges.
The goal is to make it easier for students to transfer credits between colleges, avoid taking unnecessary credits, and make informed course selections that support degree completion and meet transfer requirements.
When will this change go into effect?
There are three phases of the CCN state-wide project:
1. Phase 1 will begin in Fall 2025 with a few courses
2. Phase 2 will follow in Fall 2026 with more courses
3. Phase 3 in Fall 2027 with additional courses
Beginning in Fall 2025, course numbers and titles will be changing for many of the most popular transfer courses. When searching and registering for courses, you may need to look in the schedule under a different subject abbreviation or title (see chart below).
What SCC courses will be impacted?
The chart below provides a list of the current and new course prefixes, numbers, and titles based on the CCN system. If you have any questions, please meet with a counselor, you can schedule an appointment by visiting the Counseling Website.
