Orange, CA – The English Department at Santiago Canyon College will host its 11th Annual Shakespeare in the Park on Thursday, April 23 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Vazquez Promenade and Rose Garden on campus and is free and open to the public.
Presented in collaboration with SCC Shakespeare students, this annual celebration brings the campus community together through literature, performance, and creative expression. Attendees can enjoy complimentary food and refreshments, including snacks, popcorn, pizza, and desserts, along with raffles and interactive activities.
The event will feature an open mic poetry reading, performances by guest drag artists, and student-led theatrical presentations. Highlights include original adaptations of scenes from Macbeth and King Lear, performed by SCC’s Shakespeare Tragedy and History Plays Acting Troupes.
“Shakespeare in the Park is one of the most joyful traditions we have at SCC,” said Professor Corinna Evett of the English Department. “I am incredibly excited to see our students bring these works to life in creative and meaningful ways, and to celebrate together with our campus and local community.”
Through events like this, SCC continues to highlight the interdisciplinary relevance of literature. The works of William Shakespeare explore themes that connect the arts, humanities, social sciences, and beyond and also offer social and political commentary and correctives, offering something meaningful for all audiences.
The college extends its appreciation to the SCC Foundation and the Division of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences for their generous support of this year’s event.
Community members, students, and employees are encouraged to attend and share in this celebration of student talent and literary tradition.
