  • Highlighting our faculty
  • Celebrating what SCC faculty are already doing well with regards to equitable and effective pedagogical practices in the classroom.
  • Fostering greater faculty engagement 
  • Gathering effective practices for consideration in the DECIDE program

​​​📃Categories of Applications:

Faculty are invited to submit ONE application in one of the following categories. 

​​​Equity Minded Content Engagement:

  • Activities (e.g., active learning strategies) 
  • Assessments (e.g., rubric, transparent learning)
  • Instructional Tools (e.g., syllabus, presentation slides)
  • Technical Applications (e.g. Canvas Studio, H5P, VoiceThread, Kahoot)
  • Accessibility

​Equity Minde​d Human Engagement:

  • Community Building (e.g., focusing on building relationships between students and peers, students and instructors, etc.) 
  • Classroom Discourse (e.g., managing classroom incivility, race consciousness, cultural relativity, confronting implicit bias, etc.)
  • Building Social Capital (e.g., students and SCC student services, students and community members, mentorships, etc.)
  • Inclusive Teaching 
  • Empowering Students

Eligibility:

All Faculty (part-time, full-time, tenure track, tenured) from Credit and Non-Credit who taught at least one course in two consecutive semesters between Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 are eligible to participate. Applications can showcase online, hybrid or face to face innovation in a Santiago Canyon College course. ExCITE winners are ineligible to apply in consecutive years.

The deadline for submissions is May 4, 2026 at 11:59 pm.

Main Winner - $1000 selected from all submissions

  • Adjunct Faculty (Credit or Non-Credit) $250
  • Credit Full time Faculty $250
  • Non-Credit Full time Faculty $250 

Equity Minded Human Engagement Winners:

  • Adjunct Faculty (Credit or Non-Credit) $250
  • Credit Full time Faculty $250
  • Non-Credit Full time Faculty $250​​

​📄Application:

Applications for the ExCITE Awards will be submitted via Microsoft Forms. The form will ask for basic course information and a written description of the selected award category. In addition, faculty will be required to submit a short video addressing the following:

  • One video (5-minute maximum) demonstrating/explaining the materials being submitted** (OneDrive link for submission will be included on the application form)
  • Within the first 30 seconds of the video, introduce the following information:
    • Name of Faculty Member
    • Course Number and Course Title related to specific examples shared
    • Semester(s) the Demonstrated Examples are From
    • Category of Application (Content Engagement or Human Engagement)
    • Provide no more than 2 clear and specific examples in your video. Please prioritize depth over breadth.
  • Please follow this naming convention for your multimedia submission, i.e.“Lastname_Firstname_Category” such as “Doe_Jane_HumanEngagement.mp4”.

Both video presentation and content will be considered.

All written portions and the video submission are required for the application to be considered complete. Only one submission per applicant is permitted; if more than one submission is made, only the first will be considered. Video submissions must maintain student confidentiality. If chosen for an award, video submissions may be shared on the ExCITE website and in the DECIDE program. ExCITE winners are ineligible to apply in consecutive years. Winners will be announced at the Fall 2026 Convocation.
