Guidelines for Awarding Financial Aid:
- The Student Aid Index (SAI) is determined as a result of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and California Dream Act Application (CADAA).
- The Federal Pell Grant is the foundation of the financial aid package and eligibility is based on the SAI result.
- In general, the Santiago Canyon College Financial Aid Office requires students to submit verification documents on FAFSA's flag by the Department of Education or CADAA’s flagged b the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). However, the Financial Aid Office reserves the right to select students for verification if fraud is suspected.
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is awarded according to federal guidelines. These funds are limited and can run out, therefore disbursement is not guaranteed.
- Award packages are created based on expected full-time enrollment. Grants will be disbursed on a prorated basis based on enrollment.
- SCC reserves the right to issue adjusted award offers due to an error in calculating.
- Students can log on to Self Service to view their awards.
- Students must log into Self Service to choose a disbursement option with BankMobile.
- In addition:
- The California College Promise Grant (CCPG) will be automatically accepted.
- To accept Federal Work Study (FWS) the student must meet with the On-Campus Job Placement Coordinator.
- Students requesting a student loan must complete the Direct Loan Request Form.
Student Aid Index
The Student Aid Index (SAI) is a number used to determine a student's eligibility for federal financial aid, including grants, loans, and work-study. It is calculated based on the information provided in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), including factors such as family income, assets, and household size. A lower SAI indicates a greater financial need, which can lead to a higher amount of financial aid.
Award Limits and Packaging Policy and Procedures
Financial aid funds are placed in the order indicated in the packaging sequence below. Under no circumstances will Pell Grant be reduced. When awarding additional aid based on unmet need, we will adhere to the packaging order.
