Mission

The Student Equity & Success Committee is a participatory governance committee that reports to the Academic Senate and promotes the Guided Pathways framework across institutional student equity and success efforts. This includes support of related categorical programs to facilitate college-wide development, support, and execution of equity-minded policies, practices, climate, and procedures in line with Santiago Canyon College’s vision of student access, success, equity, social justice, and multicultural education.

To this end, the Committee’s purpose is to identify and promote best practices in collaboration with area disciplines, student services, campus entities, and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) in 1) access, 2) retention, 3) completion, 4) transfer, and 5) employment for both credit and continuing education students. 

The committee’s mission also includes increasing campus awareness of and commitment to all students’ success 

The Student Equity & Success Committee is responsible for advancing institutional student equity and success work in three ways: 

  • Serve as Equity Campus Policy Advisors & Advocates 
  • Embed Equity in Institutional Planning & Continuous Improvement Efforts 
  • Identify and Promote Best Practices to Advance Equitable Student Outcomes in Access, Retention, Completion, Transfer, and Employment 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a shared vision for the college’s student success & equity efforts. 
  • Promote a climate of respect, equity, and appreciation of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the college through campus events, publications, and professional development. Support the work of the Office of Student Equity & Success and the Guided Pathways Coordinator to develop the mandated plans through budgetary review and approval recommendations. 
  • Advise, advocate, and form recommendations regarding equity, inclusion, and student success across the college’s collegial governance structure through liaisons at the College Council, Academic Senate, and other relevant committees as appropriate. 
  • Update and submit the college's student success and equity-related plans focusing on at-scale policy, practice, climate, and procedural changes. 
  • Make recommendations to the Planning & Institutional Effectiveness Committee on the prioritization process of campus-wide allocation of resources (e.g., equipment, technology, personnel, facilities, funding) 
  • Review institutional and state success and equity data and recommend to success team leads, department chairs, programs coordinators, and division deans regarding at-scale policy, practice, climate, and procedural changes necessary to advance equitable student outcomes in line with the Guided Pathways framework. 
  • Provide access to data on disproportionately impacted populations within disciplines and support understanding possible strategies to address gaps. 
  • Consult with CIC and the Professional Development Committee at least once per semester to analyze and recommend action based on relevant research and practices. 
  • Collaborate with ODEI to provide a venue for dialogue to improve the college’s professional development efforts related to equitable access and success.
