Counseling Department's Vision:
The Counseling Department will deliver an integrated system of services designed to
enhance student success by providing the highest level of timely and effective information.
Counseling faculty will serve the educational, career and personal needs of students
with a level of academic rigor that will launch the student's successful college career.
Counseling Department's Mission:
To provide the educational and personal counseling support and information that will
enable students to strategically plan for success as they set goals that directly
focus and align with their visualized educational, career, and personal outcomes.
In addition, counseling faculty guide students through the transformational process
that occurs once they have taken the steps forward in selecting a major and beginning
the journey towards the desired career of their dreams by developing the habits of
a self managed and self driven individual where balancing school and work come naturally
in an increasingly complex world.
Counseling services include:
- Career exploration and university transfer information
- Career development for undecided majors
- Interpretation for placement recommendations in English, Reading, and Math
- One-to-one individual counseling offered in-person and online
- Educational planning and course selection
- Referral to campus resources
- Application workshops for Cal State and University of California
- New student orientations
Counselors are also available to help students:
- Develop optimal abbreviated and comprehensive student education plans
- Assess interests and abilities
- Find a new approach to problems
- Increase sensitivity to others
- Learn how to change self-defeating habits and attitudes
- Recognize style, purposes, and values
- Help students who are having academic or personal difficulties
- Clarify thinking
