International Student Health Insurance
Stay safe! Stay healthy! With excellent insurance coverage.
All students attending Santiago Canyon College on an F-1 visa must purchase a health insurance plan selected by the Rancho Santiago Community College District. The cost is $1,098 per 6 months.
Admitted students are required to purchase the health insurance plan approved by the District. Other outside health care plans are not accepted, except students sponsored by a governmental agency or program or covered by a U.S.-based health plan of a family member. Proof of health insurance is required prior to registration.
Under this plan, you may choose from a wide variety of health care providers in our local communities who participate in the Cigna Open Access Plus (OAP) Network.
Coverage Dates
Fall 2025: Coverage from 08/01/2025 to 01/31/2026
Spring 2026: Coverage from: 02/01/2026 to 07/31/2026
Summer 2026: Coverage from 06/01/2026 to 07/31/2026

Click on “Begin Enrollment”. If you have not done so, you will start by creating an account with AcademicHealthPlans (AHP).
You can use your preferred personal email address or school email address. We recommend using whichever email you access most often as this is where you will receive email communication from your health insurance carrier.
When to Buy
Students can only purchase insurance during the designated enrollment periods:
Fall: 07/01/2025 – 10/01/2025 (coverage beginning 08/01/2025)
Spring / Summer: 10/31/2025 – 03/02/2026 (coverage beginning 02/01/2026)
Summer: 05/01/2026 – 07/16/2026 (coverage beginning 06/01/2026)
- Students purchase insurance once a term or annually.
- Purchase your next semester coverage before your current coverage expires. This will ensure continuous insurance coverage.
- Coverage is not retroactive, and students are unable to purchase coverage once the enrollment period has passed.
- International students attending SCC must have valid coverage while they are studying inside of the United States.
Insurance ID
Under this plan, you may choose from a wide variety of health care providers in our local communities who participate in the Cigna Open Access Plus (OAP) Network.

Carry your ID card with you at all times! You will need our card when you visit the campus health center. doctor's office, urgent care, or hospital.
In-Network
In-network means providers such as doctors, specialists, and hospitals that accept this insurance plan. Note: Sometimes it is also called “PPO” or “Preferred” network. The network for this plan is Cigna Open Access Plus (OAP) medical network. If you use a Cigna OAP provider, covered medical services are paid by the insurance company at 100%. If you use an out-of-network provider, meaning a provider who is not part of the Cigna Open Access Plus PPO Network, covered medical expenses are paid at 70%. Deductibles and copays are not included in what the insurance company pays.

- Make your selection from the list, and call to make an appointment
It is best to locate a Cigna OAP physician, urgent care center, and emergency room near you before you get sick. Always verify the provider is part of the Cigna Network before you receive treatment.
Coverage & Copayments
- Deductible: $50 per policy year
- Physician’s Services: $10 copay per visit
- Urgent Care Services: $0 copay
- Emergency Room: $100 copay per visit
- Prescriptions: 50% of charges
- Out-of-pocket Maximum: $5,00 per individual per policy year
Reimbursement Claims
After your visit, a Cigna Open Access Plus PPO physician or provider will send a bill to the claims administrator, Cigna StudyWell.
If the medical provider does not file a claim on your behalf, you will need to submit a claim for reimbursement. Follow these steps:
- Download a claim form from sccollege.mycare26.com and fill it out completely.
- Attach itemized bills for X-rays, lab charges, etc.
- Send your completed claim form with all bills and receipts for medical treatment to Cigna StudyWell at the address below:

No-Cost Language Services (CA only)
You are eligible to access the services of an interpreter to have insurance documents read to you in your native or preferred language, at no cost to you. To use this free service, call the number listed on your insurance ID card. For further help, call the CA Department of Insurance at (800) 927-4357.
Dental and Vision
Dental and Vision are not covered by this plan, If you want to add additional them please visit: http://sccollege.mycare26.com/products
Dependents
F-2 dependents are not eligible to enroll in the school sponsored insurance plan. Optional dependent coverage is available to those who qualify.
Coverage During OPT
You are still eligible for the insurance coverage offered through your school. Enroll online by visiting sccollege.mycare26.com. Students who are on Optional Practical Training (OPT) must provide a Verification of Practical Training Letter to be eligible for this insurance coverage and must purchase OPT coverage within 30 days of the expiration date of their prior coverage.
Contact the International Student Office at international@sccollege.edu for assistance with issues related to your international student health insurance. The International Student Office will offer answers or provide you with the correct contact information. Phone numbers found on your insurance ID card can be used to contact the Cigna provider directly for specific insurance coverage information.
